Meaning
Children usually has a similar character or similar qualities to their parents
Culture
This proverbs shows British people get the knowledge from the nature that children will surely have similar qualities or characters to parents. Actually, this proverb is an expression of Eastern origin (Oxford dictionary of proverbs, 2007). However, it was translated to English and people compared the similarities within their family. The term “apple” is used as the name to refer to other fruits that that similar to apples in some way; the meaning of “The apple never falls far from the tree” refers to children’s characteristics always inherited from their parents (Oxford Dictionary of English, 2010, p. 75).
